K100-3

I wanted to avoid spending $300 USD on a new BMW fuel pump for my 1987 K100LT motorcycle. On the recommendation of others I used a fuel pump intended for a Ford car. It costs only $80 at a NAPA auto parts store.

My first attempt shown below failed. Click on a photo for an enlarged view. If you want to jump directly to my successful solution, click here.

NAPA P74095 fuel pump on left,
Bosch/BMW pump on right.
New damper and bracket.

NAPA pump in damper.
1/4" fuel line spiral wound
makes it a snug fit.

Bracket screwed on.

The hose clamp would not
clear the mounting plate
in the tank. I later took
it off.

New BMW strainer fits
on bottom.

In the end, this configuration was not stable. With all the pushing and futzing I had to do to get this snapped into the mounting plate in the tank, it all came undone. I decided this would not be stable enough for extended riding.
